Suburbium Booktown

Within the architecture week of the Kaleidoscope of Culture, the Sububium Booktown, a two-day festival in Novi Sad, will be held on 18 and 19 September.

Booktown offers an extraordinary literary experience to the international public by gathering authors, critics, publishers, librarians and readers, as well as creators of various other content inspired by literature or intertwined with it. During one weekend, streets under the Petrovaradin Fortress will be swarming with books, music, visual arts and what’s most important – people in direct interaction with their favourite authors and performers, all this in a wonderful atmosphere of a reconstructed baroque jewel.

The suburbium as a weekend-book city is divided into zones in which people can buy books, records, souvenirs, drinks, etc., and stages with influential musicians, relevant literary award winners, poetry and prose readings in different languages, discussions, children and youth programmes and movie screenings.

On the first day, 18 September, a literary evening with Svetislav Basara and the Literature Night will be implemented at eight different locations. A day later, on 19 September, you’ll have a chance to enjoy the poetry night with Rambo Amadeus, promotion of the book ‘Pričkice’ by Jovana Reba and Jefimija Medić, play ‘Udarna vest’, Kralj Čačka concert, panel discussion ‘Fabuloze’ and a literature night ‘Novi glasovi’ by Filip Grujić.

Throughout this two-day festival, a book exchange will also take place under the open sky.

The fourth ‘Kaleidoscope of Culture’ will be held from 2 September until 8 October 2021. During five weeks, this yearlong project of culture of togetherness that connects artists, cultural institutions, non-governmental organisations, citizens and visitors through various processes, will present five types of art. At the end of summer, the Kaleidoscope of Culture will present spaces and programmes throughout the city, promoting a unique image of the diversity of Novi Sad.
