Public Calls for This Year’s Kaleidoscope of Culture in Novi Sad Opened

While waiting for 2022, when Novi Sad will officially take the title of European Capital of Culture, Serbian Athens will present the culture of unity through five arts during the five weeks of the Kaleidoscope of Culture, from 2 September to 8 October.

In the spirit of activating all relevant stakeholders of the cultural scene, as well as iconic city spaces, cultural stations and new places and putting them in the service of culture and art, the Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture Foundation sent an open invitation to participate in the upcoming Kaleidoscope of Culture.

The public call, in the total value of RSD 12.5 million, will include visual, applied, performing arts, literature and architecture, and will be implemented in cooperation with renowned partners, such as the prestigious world institution for development and experiment in the field of transmedia art and new art media, Ars Electronica, art gallery in the Austrian St. Pölten (Landhausgalerie Ausstellungsbrücke), Association of Novi Sad Architects, with the support of the Austrian Cultural Forum and the Centre for the Promotion of Science.

Public call for co-financing projects for the implementation of programmes in the cultural stations, Creative District and New Places with a focus on music, theatre and art, literature, and painting, graphics, drawing, photography, sculpture, video art, design, architecture, audio-visual and digital creation and multimedia, but also musical, circus, pantomime, street art and the similar, will be open until 5 July. In addition to this, artists are invited to apply for participation in the exhibition implemented by the ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation and Provincial Government of Lower Austria in St. Pölten, in the ‘Landhausgalerie Ausstellungsbrücke’ gallery. Individuals or groups of artists (informal or legally formal), companies, faculties and other institutions operating in the field of new art media and contemporary art practices are invited to participate in a public call for the design and implementation of solutions for exhibition at the national pavilion Ars Electronica within Kaleidoscope of Culture 2021 in the Creative District in Novi Sad. The winning work should be of national importance in the form of showing and building the capacity of Serbian artistic expression, while Ars Electronica as a partner is the most prestigious institution that encourages development and experimentation in the field of transmedia art and new art media.

A special and important segment of the Kaleidoscope of Culture is architecture, and during June, an urban-architectural call for arranging small public spaces in Novi Sad will be announced under the name ‘New Places’. The call be implemented in cooperation with the Association of Architects of Novi Sad, and all professional legal and private persons will have the right to participate – this includes architects, urban planners, landscape architects as well as students from these fields. The aim of the open public call is to complement and enrich the programme of the Kaleidoscope of Culture, as a legacy and one of the largest programme arches within the European Capital of Culture title, as well as to encourage the local scene to join the project of national importance for the Republic of Serbia.
