Meme Avenue

The ‘Meme Avenue’ project by Aleksa Vujović aims at promoting a meme to the wider audience within a forum, an exhibition and a quiz. The ‘Meme Avenue’ will be opened on behind the Liman Cultural Station in Creative District, on Friday, 3 September at 7 p.m.

After the meme evaluation, the forum will be held at 8 p.m., the quiz at 9 p.m., while the humanitarian auction will be held at 9:30 p.m. The event will be followed by the DJ performance.

Memes reflect the generation of Millennials (later Generation Z), who invented a new type of graphic and video art with the popularisation of the internet. In the beginning, memes have just been photographs with text, but today, memes take a more common form.

For younger generations, meme is a way of expression through culture, fun, while sometimes, memes can provide information. Memes became part of counterculture.

The fourth Kaleidoscope of Culture’ will be held from 2 September until 8 October 2021. During five weeks, this yearlong project of culture of togetherness that connects artists, cultural institutions, non-governmental organisations, citizens and visitors through various processes, will present five types of art. At the end of summer, the Kaleidoscope of Culture will present spaces and programmes throughout the city, promoting a unique image of the diversity of Novi Sad.
