Film ‘Dust’

‘Prašina’ (en. Dust), a film by Filip Markovinović, will be shown in the New Place in Novo Naselje (Partizanskih baza Street), on 2 October at 8 p.m.

‘Prašina’ is a video collage that has been created by combining personal photo archives, family film tapes that originated between 1976 and 1982, by animating a personal photo archive and found archive material that includes unprocessed material and recordings by cinema amateurs who recorded parts of the cities Sombor and Novi Sad.

By using fragments of film recordings from personal archives and by putting them into another context that will be made from amateur recordings found in the archives and bought in the market, the video will present a stroll through oneiric spaces that are defragmented by the vagaries of time.

By decomposing and processing archive material, the author creates a bridge in time and space that connects the past and the present, while alluding to problems of remembering and perceiving an objective image about past times.

Filip Markovinović has directed 17 theatre plays so far, four short feature films and a great number of documentaries, TV shows, advertising and music videos, etc.

He is one of the founders of the NFC Kino Club Novi Sad, a founder and a selector of the short film festival ‘Film Front’, and festival of experimental films and music videos ‘Experimental Superstars’. Since 2011, he started the production of audio-visual products with his wife Nataša. He has been the associate of MMC Led Art since 2005, and a member of ‘Šumska patrola’ (en. The Forest Patrol) in Novi Sad.

The fourth Kaleidoscope of Culture will be held from 2 September until 8 October 2021. During five weeks, this yearlong project of culture of togetherness that connects artists, cultural institutions, non-governmental organisations, citizens and visitors through various processes, will present five types of art. At the end of summer, the Kaleidoscope of Culture will present spaces and programmes throughout the city, promoting a unique image of the diversity of Novi Sad.
