Corso is Coming Back to Novi Sad

Modelled on Paris, Vienna, London, Berlin and other metropolises, as well as European Capitals of Culture, Novi Sad revives one of the cult city streets.

On Saturday, 15 September, Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard, the former corso, becomes the place for the ‘Corso’ – the big concert of Symphony Orchestra of Vojvodina and scholarship of the ‘Melanija Bugarinović and daughter Mirjana Kalinović – Kalin’ Fund for Improving Vocal Arts of Young People.

The most famous compositions of Mozart, Verdi, Tchaikovsky, Rossini, Shostakovich, Puccini performed by extraordinary musicians from Novi Sad will be heard in the centre of Novi Sad.

The repertoire will begin with the ‘Carmen’ by Bizet – a unique overture that will be followed by arias and waltzes. Enjoying lavish sounds of the gems of symphony music and most beautiful opera arias, the citizens of Novi Sad, who decide to spend Saturday night at ‘Corso’, will have a chance to feel the spirit of the old Novi Sad through the exhibition of old-timers which will be parked at the same place, along the boulevard.

Mr Nemanja Milenković, CEO of the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation said:

‘The citizens of Novi Sad were called the citizens of Serbian Athens in the past, and they will be hosts of the European Capital of Culture in 2021. It sounds good when you pronounce it, but works are those that prove how much the culture is important to us. As much important that citizens of Novi Sad are ready to give away one of the most important traffic areas in the city to Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Bizet, Shostakovich, Rossini and other great names of classical music. This is not possible for every city, but the one where people believe that the culture is a way of life. Novi Sad lives it all.’

The reason for the concert is the jubilee commemorating 40 years of the Fund for Improving Vocal Arts of Young People. The event will also mark the end of this year’s ‘NEO’ Festival, implemented within the ‘Kaleidoscope of Culture’ platform of the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation.

Since the idea of the Kaleidoscope of Culture is to improve cultural life of the city by creating culture of togetherness, Novi Sad will show the new side of culture with this event. Modelled on similar events of huge proportions we have already seen in European metropolises, we will witness the unique concept of the concert ‘under the stars’.
