The sound of the overture from the ‘Carmen’ opera by Georges Bizet performed by the Symphony Orchestra of Vojvodina emitted symbolically at 20:21 in Novi Sad, when the ‘Corso’ was opened.
This Saturday, on 15 September, Novi Sad, like big metropolises such as Paris, Vienna, Berlin and London revived one of the cultural city streets in the European Year of Cultural Heritage. Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard, the former promenade of Novi Sad, again became the Corso – a place of most beautiful memories, history and hidden love.
Through the Kaleidoscope of Culture and opening of the treasure of memories, Novi Sad and almost 10.000 people proved that they are part of the European cities that respect and celebrate the culture.
Novi Sad stopped for a moment and let famous arias of great names of classical music performed by Symphony Orchestra of Vojvodina and scholarship of the ‘Melanija Bugarinović and daughter Mirjana Kalinović – Kalin’ Fund for Improving Vocal Arts of Young People overwhelm them. Thousands of people did not hesitate to show the excitement during the concert ‘under the stars’.
‘At the place where the concert was held, Novi Sad has grown from town to city, following, as the Serbian Athens, former contemporary European processes. Almost 100 years later, through the Kaleidoscope – the work of culture of togetherness, our city has proven that it can be the host of the European Capital of Culture 2021, especially with this concert.’ – those were the impressions of Mr Nemanja Milenković, CEO of the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation.
He added that the culture being in the focus of the citizens of Novi Sad is the most important thing, since not every city is able to give away one of the most important traffic areas in the city to the greatest names of classical music.
