One of today’s most prominent trumpet players, Ibrahim Maalouf, is coming to Kaleidoscope of Culture. The French-Lebanese instrumentalist and composer blends classical music, jazz, and Middle Eastern sounds, bridging both genre and geographical distances. A multiple Grammy nominee, recipient of French Orders of Arts and Letters and National Order of Merit, Maalouf has released 18 albums selling nearly a million copies, performed in over 40 countries, and collaborated with musicians ranging from Sting to ASAP Rocky. He also composes music for films, which led him to serve as a judge at the Cannes Film Festival.
Maalouf’s latest album, ‘Trumpets of Michel Ange,‘ pays tribute to his father, also a trumpeter, who adapted the instrument to Arab music through his invention of the quarter-tone trumpet. With this album, Maalouf fulfilled his father’s dream, making his invention globally renowned and accessible to all musicians. ’Such blending of sounds, languages, and cultures is the only way forward,’ Maalouf said, adding that such unexpected combinations excite him the most.
This performance presents a rare opportunity to experience the mastery of Ibrahim Maalouf live. We invite you not to miss his concert in the District on 21 September at 8.30 p. m. as part of the Kaleidoscope of Culture Performing Arts Week.
Admission to the concert is free, reservations and registrations are not required, and entrance will be possible only from Despota Stefana Boulevard 5 near the Fabrika building.
