After the grand opening at Korzo, the programme of the seventh Kaleidoscope of Culture continues today with a week dedicated to applied arts. The programme starts at 7 p.m. in one of the most significant spaces of the European Capital of Culture – the District. During the Applied Arts Week, entrance to the District will only be possible via Despota Stefana Boulevard No. 5, near the Fabrika facility.
Due to the Kaleidoscope of Culture programme, a temporary traffic ban on Despota Stefana Boulevard from Dragiše Brašovana Street (Liberty Bridge) to Šekspirova Street is in force. The temporary change in the traffic regime is valid in the period from 6 September from 7 a.m. to 8 September until 1 a.m.
On the first evening of the Applied Arts Week, on Friday, 6 September, at 8:30 p.m., a lecture on art and technology will be held in the District by world-renowned artist Andrew Melchior, who has collaborated with Björk, David Bowie, and Massive Attack. The following day, on Saturday, 7 September, at 7 p.m., Andrew Melchior will also lead an interactive workshop on innovations in creative media – ‘Harnessing Technology for Storytellin’. Additionally, Andrew Jose, a supreme artist in the global hairstyling industry, will present two performances with his academy – ‘Inside Out’ on 6 September at 7 p.m. and ‘Modern Tribes’ on 7 September at 8:30 p.m.
Throughout the Applied Arts Week, two more workshops will take place: the A61 Weaving School and the ‘Together as One’ pottery and graphics workshop, both starting at 7 p.m. The Kulturanova Association will present the interactive project ‘Stop-Trick‘, introducing visitors to the world of stop-motion animation and multimedia art.
From 7 p.m., nine exhibitions will be opened: ‘The World of Pavel Surovi: Mira Brtka’ at SCCNS Fabrika, ‘The Object of Nostalgia’ by Šok Zadruga in the Skladište building. In the Radionica building, the exhibitions ‘Drawing as Thought‘ by Petar Mirković, Boris Lukić, Tadija Janičić, and six other artists, ‘Pearl Tiaras KEY by J. Nikadimus – Jewelry Embroidery the Old Masters’ Method ‘Warehouse of Memories‘ by Aleksandar Dimitrijević, and ‘Production (In)finite‘ by Atelje 61 will be opened. At OPENS, there will be an exhibition and fashion show ‘Our Own, Similar, Ecological‘ by third and fourth-year students of the ‘Bogdan Šuput’ high school, while in the District, an outdoor exhibition ‘Smic. Moving Form – Body Relations‘ by the Association of Fine Artists of Vojvodina, as well as the Terra Centre for Fine and Applied Arts Sculpture Exhibition and an exhibition of vintage cars, will take place.
The musical programme is not forgotten, as six concerts will be held on two stages in the District during the Applied Arts Week. On the first evening, Friday, 6 September, performances will include Szilard Mezei Ring Consort with guests Nicola Guazzaloca and Csaba Nagy at 8 p.m., Bas i Stega at 9:30 p.m., Nipplepeople at 10 p.m., and Skier and Yeti starting at 11:30 p.m. On the second evening, Saturday, 7 September , the bands Too Much of Such will perform at 8:30 p.m., followed by Šlagvort and Dram at 10 p.m.
At the start of the Kaleidoscope of Culture, the Open Gallery will present applied arts from the workshops of noteworthy brands. Citizens will be introduced to jewelry brands like Neo Unicate, Biljana Novogradić, Josta, Maleni Atelje, Bi Žu, Glory Box, Sla Design, the shoe brand Rush Stuff, clothing brands Zarrez, GUGADžINA, Da Ne Žulja, handbags n g r i d, Maslikarija, NEON Bag, and SHIVARIUM, as well as the beautiful chandeliers of VAULT DSGN.
Admission to all Kaleidoscope of Culture programmes is free.
