The Svilara Cultural Station will host several generations of Novi Sad writers, who thematised the city itself in their works, within the ‘Novi Sad in Contemporary Literature’ project on 25 September during the Week of Literature.
Slobodan Tišma, Milan Tripković, Marijana Čanak, Andrea Popov Miletić, Franja Petrinović and Laslo Blašković will read excerpts from their texts and discuss the similarities and differences of the experience of the city in them, while book lovers, if prevented from going to Svilara, will be able to follow the conversation moderated by Vladislava Gordić Petković on the Facebook page of the Svilara Cultural Station.
‘The literary evening conceived in this way will surely cause great attention of the Novi Sad audience, which will undoubtedly be encouraged and motivated to actively participate in the conversation, which mostly contributes to its qualitative development, which is as important as the quantitative one. In addition to the joint performance of three generations of Novi Sad writers, which is interesting for itself and which deviates from the traditional and somewhat boring form that puts the audience in the position of a silent observer, this concept will certainly contribute to literary dialogue, which is like any other dialogue, much needed,’ says Milan Tripković, writer and the author of the project, while Vladislava Gordić Petković says:
‘No city is just a setting in which literary heroes live and work. The city is a space of remembrance of the past, a space of belonging or exile, a space of freedom or restraint. The multicultural topography of Novi Sad is a challenging space, because different historical periods with their iconography and symbolism march in front of us. In painting portraits of a city such as Újvidék, Neoplanta, Neusatz or Novi Sad, the writer immerses the heroes in multicultural content and compiles an authentic chronicle of the mentality that transcends the signs of the national.’
The Kaleidoscope of Culture is a yearlong project that promotes togetherness within which artists, cultural institutions, non-governmental organisations and most diverse audience connect in order to create spaces and programmes that will be presented to the widest audience across Novi Sad, creating a unique picture of diversity.
The conversation with the writers will take place on the plateau of the Svilara Cultural Station, while in case of bad weather, it will take place indoors. The number of people in the the cultural station is limited to 30, so the organizers ask all visitors to adhere to all measures in order to preserve their health and for better enjoyment of cultural content. Visitors are required to wear protective masks at all events.
