The Opening is the Kaleidoscope of Culture in miniature. It takes place over four days, from 1 to 4 September, in the District area, one of the most important infrastructure projects of Novi Sad as the European Capital of Culture.
Just as an overture is an opening composition that precedes a piece and introduces the listeners to the musical events that will follow, so is the opening week an announcement for all those rich tones – architecture, performing arts, literature, visual and applied arts – that make up the symphony that is the Kaleidoscope of Culture during five weeks, from 1 September to 7 October.
This year too, the opening will be a reflection of the entire Kaleidoscope of Culture and an ode to diversity sung through more than 100 programmes that will be performed by almost 400 artists from 38 countries – all of Serbia’s neighbouring countries, as well as Greece, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Ireland, France, Spain, Sweden, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, China, Japan, Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, USA, Canada and others.
Admission to all programmes is free, apart from the performance of the Swedish duo Carbon Based Lifeforms. Tickets for their musical and visual spectacle will be charged 500 dinars at the entrance.
