As part of the Kaleidoscope of Culture’s visual arts week, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy expert guided tours of the recently opened exhibition ‘Sava Šumanović and European Realism Between the Two World Wars’ and the exhibition of Dragoljub Raša Todosijević’s works ‘Tomorrow is Monday’, which will be led by famous visual artist Uroš Đurić, on Wednesday, 28 September.
Those who, on 28 September, attend the guided tours of the exhibition ‘Sava Šumanović and European Realism Between the Two World Wars’, at 5 p.m., at the Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection, or at 7 p.m. in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina of the retrospective exhibition ‘Tomorrow is Monday’ by Dragoljub Raša Todosijević, will see how Đurić will conceptualise his tour of the two mentioned exhibitions and whether the accents of the tour will be placed on the continuities or discontinuities of the artistic practice of these two great visual creators. It must be noted that Raša Todosijević and Uroš Đurić, who will guide visitors through the exhibitions, are in fact winners of the ‘Sava Šumanović Art Award, which unites three artists in a unique way.
The number of visitors for the exhibition ‘Sava Šumanović and European Realism Between the Two World Wars’ in the Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection is limited, and registration is required for attendance via phone number 021 472 99 66.
Two important artists, who marked the artistic eras of modernism and neo-avant-garde in this area with their work, will be connected for the Novi Sad audience, by the visual artist Uroš Đurić, with the focus on the peculiarities of their artistic works.
Sava Šumanović’s rich oeuvre of paintings and the most significant phases of his creativity will be presented at the exhibition in the Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection, the Gallery of Matica Srpska, and the ‘Sava Šumanović’ Art Gallery in Šid until 4 December. The exhibitions in the Novi Sad museums opened on 24 September, while the exhibition in the Šid Gallery will open on 3 October. Taking into account the European cultural scene of Šumanović’s era, with an emphasis on the Parisian and Yugoslav friendships of the famous painter, the goal of this large project is to bring his artistic range closer to the audience, which was not at all lagging behind contemporary artistic tendencies in Europe.
The opening of the exhibition of paintings by Sava Šumanović in Novi Sad as part of the European Capital of Culture programme was preceded by an already available retrospective exhibition of works of art by the former laureate of the ‘Sava Šumanović’ Art Award, Dragoljub Raša Todosijević, at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina until 5 October. For the first time, an exhibition collects and presents artworks from some of his key series, such as Dnevnik, Decision as Art, Was Ist Kunst?, Gott Liebt die Serben, and Fuxus Piano. The starting point of the exhibition is the continuous activity of the author in the field of socio-politically engaged art, and the questioning of standards in artistic systems, imposed and generally accepted principles, as criteria subject to criticism and new perception.
