The ongoing Kaleidoscope of Culture enters its fourth week, dedicated to visual arts. After the opening at the Gallery Square, which, this year, is in token of the exhibition dedicated to one of the greatest Serbian painters, Sava Šumanović, the Svilara Cultural Station will host Austrian artist Gerhard Flekatsch and his exhibition ‘Cabinet of Wonders’.
The multimedia exhibition, which connects art and science in an authentic way, will comprise a collection of works that thematise nature, curiosities and inventions in churches and noble houses common during the 18th and 19th centuries. The exhibition will open on Tuesday, 27 September at 8.22 p.m. (20.22) and will be on view until 5 October. Admission is free.
Gerhard Flekatsch is an artist from Vienna. In addition to his profession in management of aviation medicine, Flekatsch has a long-term experience as a cultural journalist, a cultural manager (he was the director of ‘Naher Osten – Naher Westen’) and a photographer. In 2006, Flekatsch reconnected with his youth, when he was introduced to painting and drawing in the studio of his grandfather, professor Richard Mahler. Since then, he has devoted himself entirely to the fine arts. His artistic activity is focused on human imagination, perception and the arbitrariness of boundaries.
The Svilara Cultural Station is part of the network of cultural stations in Novi Sad, which comprises revitalised and new cultural spaces across the city and its surroundings, created within the European Capital of Culture project.
The Kaleidoscope of Culture lasts until 7 October, while after visual arts week, the last week dedicated to applied arts is ahead of us.
