Book Exchange under the open sky will be held within the two-day festival ‘Podgrađe Booktown’, during the literature week of the Kaleidoscope of Culture, on 18 and 19 September in the period from 5 until 9 p.m.
The Novi Sad book exchange is organised quarterly, i.e., once in a season, answering the topic of each season. The Egység Cultural Station declared it the event that marked 2019.
The idea of Exchange is finding owners for the books that nobody needs. The books without the success of being sold, go back to the foster library until the next event or are donated to diverse humanitarian initiatives.
The book exchange is being done with coupons. Participants bring their books, then they have been converted into coupons mostly based on condition and demand. Afterwards, they can ‘buy’ other books from the book database that has been constantly updated with the coupons. There are around 30,000 books in the foster library of the Novi Sad book exchange.
This year, the Novi Sad book exchange is implemented by the ‘16. jul’ Centre for Culture and New Media, a non-formal group including, while it has been coordinated by Helena Mak, Ana Bogojev, Frančeska Fajhner, Dunja Vukčević, Lazar Čovs, Stanislava Radosavljević and Miljana Kocić.
The fourth Kaleidoscope of Culture will be held from 2 September until 8 October 2021. During five weeks, this yearlong project of culture of togetherness that connects artists, cultural institutions, non-governmental organisations, citizens and visitors through various processes, will present five types of art. At the end of summer, the Kaleidoscope of Culture will present spaces and programmes throughout the city, promoting a unique image of the diversity of Novi Sad.
