A unique programme concept, unforgettable audiovisual experiences, increased visibility for artists, the discovery of new cultural spaces, and contributing to Novi Sad’s image as a cultural capital are highlighted as key findings from research by independent evaluators from the University of Novi Sad for the seventh edition of the Kaleidoscope of Culture.
This major artistic event in this part of Europe, which ended on 5 October, undergoes a detailed evaluation every year, including audience surveys during events. This year’s results reveal that nearly 100% of respondents felt that their expectations for the seventh Kaleidoscope of Culture were fully or largely met.
For most respondents, the word ’art’ was the first association with the Kaleidoscope of Culture. Additionally, 99.25% of surveyed visitors believe that the event plays a vital role in increasing the visibility of artists across different fields.
As a legacy of the ’Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ project, the Kaleidoscope of Culture has become an essential part of the city’s cultural life, with 92.72% of respondents expressing that its continuation after the title year is important.
On the other hand, the District, one of the most significant infrastructural projects of the European Capital of Culture and the venue for this year’s Kaleidoscope of Culture, was rated as the best location for such events by 84.2% of respondents. Moreover, over 90% of surveyed visitors believe that the Kaleidoscope of Culture has contributed to the opening and recognition of new cultural spaces in Novi Sad.
The quality and continuity of the Kaleidoscope of Culture are further reflected in the fact that over 50% of the audience has attended the event multiple times in previous years. Its diversity and appeal are confirmed by the data showing that 77.99% of respondents attend multiple events during the five-week programme.
Nearly all respondents indicated that they would recommend the event to others, while around 90% believe that the Kaleidoscope of Culture contributes to shaping Novi Sad’s image as a cultural capital.
Furthermore, respondents emphasized that multiculturalism and the presence of diverse performers enrich the programme. The use of open spaces and free admission were also noted as positive aspects, creating an accessible atmosphere for all interested citizens.
This year, the seventh Kaleidoscope of Culture brought together more than 500 artists, including global stars, prominent figures from the Serbian cultural and artistic scene, and emerging talents. The programme spanned five weeks, covering five types of art: applied arts, literature, performing arts, architecture, and visual arts.
The Kaleidoscope of Culture is one of the few cultural events with regular monitoring through annual audience surveys, engaging citizens in evaluating the programme and offering recommendations for future development. Trained interviewers (undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Novi Sad) conducted the surveys.
