{"id":8244,"date":"2022-08-25T15:19:55","date_gmt":"2022-08-25T13:19:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kaleidoskopkulture.com\/?p=8244"},"modified":"2022-09-07T11:12:20","modified_gmt":"2022-09-07T09:12:20","slug":"a-major-exhibition-in-honour-of-sava-sumanovic-at-the-kaleidoscope-of-culture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kaleidoskopkulture.com\/en\/a-major-exhibition-in-honour-of-sava-sumanovic-at-the-kaleidoscope-of-culture\/","title":{"rendered":"A Major Exhibition in Honour of Sava \u0160umanovi\u0107 at the Kaleidoscope of Culture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The central event of the <a href=\"https:\/\/kaleidoskopkulture.com\/en\/kaleidoscope-calendar-visual-arts\/\"><strong>visual arts week<\/strong><\/a> of the Kaleidoscope of Culture, which lasts from 24 to 29 September, will be the major exhibition dedicated to one of the most significant Serbian painters of the 20th century and the representative of Serbian modernism in European art, <strong>Sava \u0160umanovi\u0107<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The exhibition <a href=\"https:\/\/kalendar.novisad2022.rs\/en\/events\/sava-sumanovic-and-european-realism-between-the-two-world-wars\/\">\u2018Sava \u0160umanovi\u0107 and European Realism Between the Two World Wars\u2019<\/a> will last from 24 September to 4 December at the Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection, the Gallery of Matica Srpska, Sava \u0160umanovi\u0107 Gallery in \u0160id, and will also include a related exhibition at the Gallery of Fine Arts \u2013 Gift Collection of Rajko Mamuzi\u0107.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In Novi Sad, \u0160umanovi\u0107\u2019s works between the two world wars will be presented for the first time, with a focus on his work in France. This exhibition will present the Serbian painter whose creativity has reached European frameworks and who can rightly be said to have brought the artistic language of European Cubism to Serbia.<\/p>\n<p>After receiving his education, in what was then Yugoslavia, as a twenty-four-year-old, \u0160umanovi\u0107 went to Paris and rented a studio on Montparnasse, where his teacher was Andr\u00e9 Lhote. There he also socialised with Rastko Petrovi\u0107, Amedeo Modigliani, Max Jacob, and other artists. The influences of Cubism are visible in this, but also in the later stages of the painter&#8217;s work. His rich creativity, which was just showing all the possibilities of a great artist, was interrupted by his suffering during World War II. The exhibition will be organised simultaneously in four museums, three in Novi Sad, and one in \u0160id. The three galleries from Novi Sad that participate in the organisation of this unique exhibition are located in <strong>Gallery Square<\/strong>, a space that has positioned itself as a centre of visual art and a famous location in Novi Sad known for nurturing existing and creating new lasting values, through the Kaleidoscope of Culture.<\/p>\n<p>With its active design and various types of interpretations of Sava \u0160umanovi\u0107\u2019s work, the exhibition addresses a wide audience. At the opening, a multimedia performance will be given out, in the form of a special interpretation of the famous painting Breakfast on Grass.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7340\" src=\"https:\/\/kaleidoskopkulture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SZPB-dorucak-na-travi-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"2083\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kaleidoskopkulture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SZPB-dorucak-na-travi-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/kaleidoskopkulture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SZPB-dorucak-na-travi-300x244.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kaleidoskopkulture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SZPB-dorucak-na-travi-1024x833.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/kaleidoskopkulture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SZPB-dorucak-na-travi-768x625.jpg 768w, https:\/\/kaleidoskopkulture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SZPB-dorucak-na-travi-1536x1250.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/kaleidoskopkulture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SZPB-dorucak-na-travi-2048x1666.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During its span, the exhibition will have a very <strong>rich accompanying programme<\/strong>: a series of lectures and expert tours through the exhibition settings, with interpretations in sign language, workshops for young people and preschool children, film screenings, as well as the performance of the interactive play \u2018Bohemians of Montparnasse\u2019 in cooperation with the \u2018Mi\u0161olovka\u2019 Youth Theatre, which will present a mosaic of \u0160umanovi\u0107\u2019s life in Paris in the 1920s.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the exhibition in three museums will be accompanied by a representative catalogue with texts by prominent scientific and museum experts \u2013 Prof. Zvonko Makovi\u0107, PhD, Prof. Lidija Merenik, PhD, Prof. Igor Borozan, PhD, Ana Ere\u0161, PhD, Tijana Palkovljevi\u0107 Bugarski, PhD, Sofija Milenkovi\u0107, MA, Gordana Krsti\u0107 Faj, Tamara Ognjevi\u0107, MA, and Milane Kvas, MA.<\/p>\n<p>During Visual Arts Week, the audience has the opportunity to enjoy programmes dedicated to the rich artistic heritage and contemporary visual creativity. Visitors will witness a different concept of presenting visual art, through new art media and forms, multimedia exhibitions, and a rich accompanying programme that includes documentaries, videos, performances, art installations, lectures, and the like. This year, in the visual art week of the Kaleidoscope of Culture, in addition to the large exhibition dedicated to Sava \u0160umanovi\u0107, there will also be the first independent <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/kaleidoskopkulture.com\/en\/the-first-independent-retrospective-exhibition-by-rasa-todosijevic\/\">retrospective exhibition of Dragoljub Ra\u0161a Todosijevi\u0107<\/a><\/strong>, one of our most prominent conceptual artists and the representative of Serbia at the Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art.<\/p>\n<p>In the title year of the <a href=\"https:\/\/novisad2022.rs\/en\/home-page\/\"><strong>European Capital of Culture<\/strong><\/a>, the Kaleidoscope of Culture will be held for the fifth time, from 1 September to 7 October.
